New Tool For San Diego Swimmers To Monitor Sewage Contamination

A new tool is being launched that will help swimmers monitor sewage contamination off the coast of San Diego.

The website, launched by UC San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography, will tell you how bad, or high, sewage contamination levels are along our coast, stretching from Southern San Diego County, into Mexico.

It will generate forecasts up to five days in advance, just like you get from weather forecasts. However, the project's supervisor says just like those forecasts, there is a margin of error in predicting conditions. The site is still experimental.

The team behind the model plans to add more accurate norovirus forecasts, that next phase is planned for next summer. To check out the website online, just google Scripps Sewage Model.
