The San Diego City Council has voted to approve the ordinance which caps the number of ADUs in the city.
The majority of people who spoke at Monday night's meeting urged the council to cap the number of units that can be built on single family lots. They say too many would impact the character of neighborhoods and impact traffic.
The new rules set a maximum of four ADUs on lots smaller than 8-thousand square feet.
The vote came in the face of warnings from state officials that rolling back the program could put the city at odds with state housing laws, and threaten San Diego's official status as a pro housing city.
