The King of Cocktails, Dale DeGroff's Famous Eggnog Recipe

You know what they always say! "It doesn't feel like Christmas until somebody's poured some Nog!" I mean... I'm sure somebody has said that at some point, right? Either way, no Christmas is complete without some delicious eggnog! The King of Cocktails himself, Dale DeGroff joined us on the show for the Big Rich, TD, and Fletch Christmas Spectacular and shared his uncle Angelo's famous eggnog recipe!

Full disclosure - I am not a big fan of eggnog... BUT! This is not your typical nog! This was hands down the best eggnog we've ever tasted and we'll be making it every year from here on out!

Enjoy the BEST eggnog recipe on the Planet:

UNCLE ANGELO'S EGGNOG

1 batch - 6 people

This was Dale DeGroff's Grandmother's brother's recipe. He submitted the recipe to the Four Roses whiskey eggnog recipe and won. His recipe appeared on the back of the bottle for several seasons.

Angelo always had two bowls of eggnog at Christmas, one for the kids and one for the grown-ups. Here is the recipe, and incidentally what made the recipe special was its lightness, twice as much milk as cream and the white of the egg whipped stiff and folded into the mix, so it was almost like clouds on top of the eggnog.

  • 6 eggs (separated)
  • 1 qt. milk
  • 1 pint cream
  • 1 tbsp. ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 6 oz. bourbon
  • 6 oz. your favorite medium bodied rum

Beat egg yolks well until they turn light in color, adding half a cup of sugar as you beat. Add milk, cream and liquor to finished yolks. Then beat egg whites until they peak, slowly adding the remaining 1/4 of sugar while you beat.. Fold whites into mixture. Grate fresh nutmeg over drink.
