San Diego leaders will consider stricter rules for e-bike riders at today's City Council meeting as serious injuries involving children continue to rise.
Doctors at Rady Children's Hospital say they treated a record 262 traumatic e-bike injuries last year, and cases are on pace to exceed that number this year.
The proposal would ban children under 12 from riding certain e-bikes and prohibit passengers on bikes not designed for more than one rider.
Supporters say the goal is to reduce severe injuries and improve safety through education rather than punishment.
