Two U.S. Representatives paid an unannounced visit to the Otay Mesa Detention Center Monday.
Mike Levin and Sara Jacobs toured the facility for over 90 minutes but were denied the opportunity to speak with detainees.
The two inspected pods, the medical center and the law library and reported the facility clean. They are now making plans for future visits.
This visit happened amid ongoing disputes over congressional oversight rights, with a recent federal court ruling reinforcing the rights of lawmakers to conduct unannounced visits.
