Federal officials are reminding travelers to declare flowers and plants brought into the U.S. from Mexico ahead of Mother’s Day weekend.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection says bouquets and greenery can carry harmful pests and plant diseases that threaten American agriculture.
Officials say some flowers, including chrysanthemums from Mexico, are prohibited because of disease risks, while certain greenery can carry insects dangerous to citrus crops.
Travelers are being urged to declare all agricultural products at border crossings to avoid penalties and help protect U.S. farms and ecosystems.
