The name of fallen La Mesa Police Officer Lauren Craven will be added to a memorial in front of the department's station today, and the public is being invited to attend.
Yesterday, Craven was honored at the San Diego County Law Enforcement Memorial.
“We’ll never forget her,” La Mesa police Lt. Travis Higgins said. “Her light will always shine in our hearts and within everything that we do.”
Craven became the 92nd officer listed, and the first from the La Mesa Police Department, whose name was added to the memorial wall.
She was 25, and had been on the job fewer than two years when she died while trying to help a crash victims on Interstate 8 last October.
Today's ceremony begins at 4. Craven's name will also be read aloud during a ceremony at the National Peace Officers Memorial in Washington next week.
