San Diego FC Defeats Nashville SC 1-0 to Stay Atop Western Conference

San Diego FC earned a gritty 1-0 win over Nashville SC on Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium, holding onto first place in the Western Conference.

The lone goal came in the 53rd minute when Hirving “Chucky” Lozano buried a right-footed shot into the top corner after a smooth buildup from Jeppe Tverskov and Anders Dreyer. Dreyer picked up his league-leading 16th assist on the play.

Dreyer had a chance to double the lead in the 83rd minute after drawing a penalty, but Nashville keeper Joe Willis made the save. Dreyer also put the ball in the net in stoppage time, but the referee had already blown the final whistle.

The win marked SDFC’s first home clean sheet since May 31 and snapped a three-match winless streak at Snapdragon. Goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega made four saves behind a young backline to earn his first shutout of the year.

San Diego improved to 14-7-4 (46 points) with the win, while Nashville dropped to 14-6-5 (47 points). Head coach Mikey Varas praised the team’s defensive focus and composure under pressure.

SDFC now turns its attention to the Leagues Cup, where it will face Liga MX side Pachuca on Monday, July 29, at Snapdragon Stadium.
