My California Recall Takeaways

My thoughts following this week's recall election.

1. There are a lot more Democrats in California than Republicans.

2. I went to vote in person and the poll-worker told me "You already voted." I had to fill out a provisional ballot. More on that to come...once I talk to the Registrar's office.

3. I don't see how a Republican wins state-wide office or even local office again. Faulconer got 3rd place in the CITY HE WAS MAYOR OF. First place in SD was BLANK, second place was Elder, third was Faulconer.

4. It's okay to be discouraged, but don't ever be dishonored.

Geoffrey Studdert Kennedy was a pastor in England and a soldier during WWI. He wrote this to his son from the trenches in France:

[to his wife] "The first prayer I want my son to learn to say for me is not, ‘God, keep Daddy safe.’ The first prayer I want my son to learn is, ‘God, make Daddy brave, and if he has hard things to do, make him strong to do them.’ Life and death don’t matter, my son. Right and wrong do. Daddy dead is Daddy still. But Daddy dishonored before God is something too awful for words. I suppose you’d like to put in a bit about safety, too, and Mother would. Well, put it in afterwards, always afterwards, for it doesn’t matter nearly as much."

Never be dishonored.
