Forty-one candidates have met the qualifications to run in the California gubernatorial recall election. There are 21 Republican candidates, ranging from San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer to reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner. According to Politico, the recall field is notably absent of prominent Democratic politicians after Gov. Gavin Newsom's campaign successfully deterred other leaders in his party from giving their voters an "attractive option." Of the eight Democratic candidates, the one with the largest following is YouTuber Kevin Paffrath. The ballot for the September 14 election will ask voters if they want to recall Newsom, and if so, who should replace him.
