Padres' Bob Melvin Discusses Prostate Surgery, Return of Voit & Myers

The Padres offense received a much-needed boost with the return of outfielder Wil Myers and designated hitter Luke Voit on Tuesday but the team was dealt a much more significant piece of news prior to the game.

Padres manager Bob Melvin announced he was having prostate surgery on Wednesday with Ryan Christenson serving as interim skipper in his absence.

"It is what it is. Timetable is hopefully at the longest, is just miss this road trip. I hope it's shorter than that but that's probably the timetable."

Melvin added he doesn't think it's cancerous but they won't know until they operate.

Melvin also addressed why the timetable was right to activate Luke Voit and Wil Myers with the latter not bothering with a rehab assignment, why CJ Abrams will benefit from much-needed every day at-bats in El Paso and when they expect to make a decision on the starting rotation.
