Inmates Get Vaccine Before the Elderly in Oregon

A federal judge has ruled that Oregon must offer COVID-19 vaccinations to all prison inmates immediately -- putting them ahead of the state's senior citizens in line for the limited supply of vaccines. In the order issued by U.S. Magistrate Judge Stacie Beckerman, she wrote that inmates are particularly vulnerable to the spread of coronavirus because they live and work in close quarters and can't social distance. "Prisons have not been spared from this reality, as COVID-19's toll continues to mount behind bars." According to the Covid Prison Project, there have been more than 368,000 cases among prison inmates across the U.S. since the pandemic started and nearly 2,300 deaths.
